CLASS TITLE:  DIRECTOR I – After School

 

BASIC FUNCTION: 

 

Directly responsible of overseeing the planning, organization, coordination and controlling the day to day operations of the center including, but not limited to, supervision of the staff, fiscal operation of the center, public relations, fundraising and management of regulatory requirements as set forth by state and federal guidelines.  

 

           

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

 

  • Maintain compliance with all state and federal licensing regulations.
  • Attend professional conferences and workshops for continuing education.
  • Plan/collaborate on menu and purchasing of snacks.
  • Serves as liaison to the district on matters related to the child care center. *(District Liaison)
  • Coordinates mandated fire and emergency drills on a monthly basis.
  • Develop and maintain separate files that include data on each employee.
  • Develop and maintain records that include personal and medical data on each child.
  • Work with parents through both general and private meetings to ensure the growth of the child care center.
  • Demonstrates commitment to professional accountability and growth to maintain and expand knowledge and skills.
  • Oversee the care and maintenance of the facility.
  • Plan a program, in cooperation with other teachers, of education and care for each age group that gives the children the basic skills they will need to succeed in school.
  • Regularly evaluate all childcare programs.
  • Coordinate the work of teachers and staff so rooms will be safe and in order for each day.
  • Annually prepare the program budget in consultation with the Principal.
  • Administer the program within the limits of the budget, consulting regularly on expenditures with the Principal.
  • Maintain a Checks and Balance system for receiving and recording receipts. 
  • Collect all childcare payments, promptly send out late notices, and collect all late fees.
  • Seek additional funding for program development and equipment needs, as needed.
  • Recruit, interview and hire new staff with pre-approval from the Principal.
  • Supervise workers in planning the curriculum and carrying out daily programs. 
  • Orient, train, and annually conduct staff evaluations.
  • Schedule and lead staff meetings on a regular basis.
  • Ensure that staff members obtain required updated training and proper medical examinations annually.
  • Ensure the presence of required number of workers at all times present with children.
  • Address all staff complaints, concerns, and conflicts.

  • Provides regular communication pieces in print to parents and responsible parties in an effort to keep them informed about center activities. 
  • Maintain open communication with childcare staff, school staff, parents, SBDM committee members, and the principal. 
  • Maintain an attitude of professionalism and personal organization. 
  • Perform other duties as directed by the Principal.

      KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Knowledgeable of current trends in childhood education and development.
  • Knowledgeable of state and federal regulations pertaining to childcare and childcare centers.
  • Adhere to professional code of conduct and ethical practice.

  • Maintain records and prepare reports.
  • Plan and organize work.
  • Train, supervise and evaluate personnel.
  • Maintain current knowledge of technological advances in the field.

  • Must pass Criminal Records Background Check.
  • Personal traits of empathy, responsibility, dependability, intelligence and ability to adapt to fluctuating circumstances
  • Demonstrate leadership and teaching ability.
  • Must demonstrate effective communication skills with children, childcare staff, school staff, parents, guardians, volunteers and vendors.
  • Must have a current driver’s license and the ability to drive with unlimited access to reliable automobile with appropriate liability insurance.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
  • Must be able to access center independently.
  • Must observe universal precautions.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, and lift up to 50 pounds

 

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 

      Any combination equivalent to:  high school diploma, G.E.D. Certificate or demonstrated progress toward obtaining a G.E.D. as required by Kentucky law and five years of experience in a field directly related to assignment including at least one year in a supervisory capacity.

 

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

 

      Some positions in this class may require certification as required by the State in order to perform the duties of Director.
