LE:  COUNSELOR I - HIGH SCHOOL

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Possess a valid Kentucky Secondary Guidance and Counseling Certificate and three years successful teaching experience (high school level desired)

 

REPORT TO/EVALUATED BY: Principal

 

BASIC FUNCTION: Provide individual group and classroom counseling to students and serve as a school liaison to social agencies within the community.

 

 

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

 

Conduct an assessment of the guidance needs of the local school.  Plan, develop and evaluate the guidance program of the school.

 

Provide individual counseling services pertaining to vocational, educational, personal, and social development.

 

Direct maintenance of the local school permanent record system and assist parents and teachers by interpreting permanent record data and providing other available related information.

 

Provide appropriate materials to students and parents to assist in proper course selection and placement.  Assists students in planning their total academic programs.

 

Provide referral services to assist parents and students in securing needed services from community agencies.

 

Assist classroom teachers by consulting on the special abilities and needs of students, helping to address problems, and helping to plan instructional programs as they relate to student needs.

 

Assist with local school participation in district-wide testing program and the maintenance of college entrance testing program records (SAT, PSAT, ACT, etc.).

 

Provide recommendations and student assessments to colleges, post-secondary schools and employers.

 

Provide scholarship and financial aid information to students.

 

  Communicate the purposes of the guidance program to students, parents, staff, and community.

 

Perform other guidance-related activities necessary to meet the school-related needs of the student.

Conduct pre-registration orientation at the middle school in cooperation with the middle school counselor and organize and conduct registration for incoming freshmen.

 

Under the supervision of the principal, conduct pre-registration activities. Activity to be completed in Spring of each year.

 

Maintain grade records and transcripts for students.

 

Perform other related duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
